The Problem

You put QR codes on packaging, in stores, on print materials. But do they work? And can we update them later?

How a QR code stays trackable

Built on a promo link

A code is generated from a promo link rather than pointing at a bare URL, so every scan inherits that link's tracking, discount and personalization. A scan is a click, with all the same reporting.

Branded without breaking

Colours and an embedded logo are supported because QR has built-in error correction — the code carries redundant data so it still reads with part of it covered. More logo means a higher correction level.

Print and digital are different exports

PNG for screens and email; SVG for anything printed, because SVG scales to any size without softening. Exporting a screen-resolution PNG and enlarging it for a poster is the usual way a code ends up unscannable.

QR code questions

PNG or SVG — which should I use?

SVG for print, PNG for digital. SVG is resolution-independent, so the same file works on a business card and a billboard; PNG is fixed-resolution and will pixelate if enlarged past its export size.

How big does the printed code need to be?

Scanning distance sets the minimum: roughly 1cm of code for every 10cm a phone will be held away. A business card wants about 2.5cm, a flyer about 4cm, a billboard far more than people expect.

Can I put my logo in the middle?

Yes, and the error-correction level should rise with the logo's size — from about 15% recovery for a small mark to 30% for a large one. Test a print before committing to a run.

Can I change where a code points after it's printed?

Because the code resolves through a promo link rather than a hard-coded URL, the destination is changed on the link — the printed code keeps working.
